What are Electrodes?
A discharge lamp contains two filaments that maintain the electrical arc created by the gas discharge. These two filaments—located at either end of the discharge—are called electrodes.
Electrodes in HID Lamps
High-intensity discharge lamps (HIDs) typically use tungsten electrodes to produce light by way of an electric arc. Tungsten is a rare metallic element characterized by high heat resistance. These electrodes are housed in transparent or semi-transparent material.
